July 2011

July 5, 2011

Warm temperatures have finally arrived. We have been very busy in the vineyard this year. With the ample rainfall and high temps, the grapevines have been growing quite rapidly. The most time consuming work in the vineyard is tucking the vines into the trellising system. We have been working on this for the past couple weeks.

The wine and dine for this month is on the 14th. The theme will be Cuban night. Please call for reservations!!

Thanks again, and we hope to see you soon.

June 20th

June 20, 2011

Hi again. The spring season has been crazy with all of this rainy weather. The vineyard is doing fine, with lots of growth so far. Certain varieties have all ready reached the top of the trellis system. We have been out tucking and cutting off the suckers that are trying to grow from the ground. We have also replaced some earth anchors at the end of the rows. Karin is excited to be in her new tractor this season.

We are having a wine and dine on July 14th. There will be open seating from 6 to 8, so please call for reservations and information. The food served will be based upon a Cuban theme.

Thanks, and we hope to see you soon!

May 19th

May 19, 2011

Today we are getting more vineyard equipment ready. We finally have buds about to leaf, which means a green vineyard is coming soon. For now there is not a lot going on in the vineyard, but i fear that will change in a big hurry! Our first two weekends open have been fun. We have been able to chat with some customers that we have not seen all winter. I hope we get good warm weather for this weekend. Please stop out and enjoy a glass of wine with us, and relax on the patio.

Opening May 6th

April 28, 2011

Hello everyone, we are opening again for the season May 6th. We have been busy in the vineyard with repair on the trellis system. Due to the high winds and deep snow, many of the trellis wires in the La Crescent have been pulled off the posts. We are finally done with pruning and cannot wait for the grapevines to start growing. We are having a special for mothers day. This includes free tastings and free cupcakes for the first 30 moms. We also have started a newsletter, so if you have not received the letter please e-mail and let us know.

Thanks again for all the support, and we hope to see you soon!

November

November 15, 2010

Hi everyone, its been a while since the last post. We cannot believe that it is all ready the middle of November. All of our wine is bulk aging and waiting to be fined. The vineyard is completely dormant now, with no leaves in sight. Due to our mild fall weather, the vines were able to change color, and go dormant on their own without a killing frost. This is the first time since we planted the vineyard that this has happened. The warm temperatures made a very picturesque fall in the vineyard. We are still meeting new people all the time, and our wine trail is picking up in popularity. (heartlandwinetrailmn.com) The suppers for November are all booked solid, but there is another scheduled for December 9th. If you would like to reserve a seat, please call the winery at 320-847-3060.

Our new barrel room and storage facility is all most complete. This will be a nice addition for us, and help us save some needed space in the winery. We ordered a few more barrels this year, and are anticipating the wines that are aging out from 2009.

Thanks to all who have been following the blog, and we hope to hear from you soon!!

October

October 7, 2010

Hi everyone, we cannot believe that it’s October all ready. The grapes are all harvested, and we are well into the wine making process. We are still busy every weekend, with new visitors all the time. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have decided to do a little fundraising for a local group (hotties 4 hooters) who will be walking in the 3-day Susan G Koman walk for breast cancer. Every weekend, we will have a pink ribbon on select wines, of which a percent for every bottle purchased will be donated to the girls.

The wine and dine dates for November are: November 4th– Comfort Foods
November 18th– Harvest Feast

Wine and Dine August

July 27, 2010

The wine and dine for August is the 19th. If anyone would like to reserve seats, please call or e-mail for reservations.

We are still working hard in the vineyard. Tucking and training the vines is an endless job. The vines look all right for going through major frost in the spring, and baseball sized hail in the summer. The grape loss is not huge, but we can definitely tell the numbers are down from last year.

Thanks to everyone who has stopped this summer, and to those who are following this blog. Hopefully we will get the 2009 Frontenac bottled this week. It has been aging out on two different types of oak, and will be blended back together before bottling. Please stop out and enjoy a glass!!

Thank you – Hinterland Vineyards

Wine and Dine

June 29, 2010

The next wine and dine is on July 15th. The menu is not yet complete, but i can tell you that the main entree will be steak. The price may be a little more per person this time, due to the cut of meat. If interested, please send an e-mail or call the winery. Thank you.

Also at this time i would like to write a little about what we are currently doing in the vineyard. The past couple of weeks we have been de-suckering the vines (pulling the shoots that are trying to re-grow from the ground). We have also been tucking the vines into the trellis system. We do this so that the fruit is exposed to the sunlight. This helps the fruit ripen to its maximum potential. The vines made it through the storms that rained down lemon sized hail, so we are very thankful for that. The winery has been busy, so thanks to everyone who has stopped by so far this spring. I would also like to invite everyone to bring out there own picnic, and use the patio. We can sell by the glass, and by the bottle, so feel free to bring out a good book and have a relaxing afternoon.

Once again, thank you and we hope to see you soon!!
